Prof. Christian Borgemeister

Prof. Christian Borgemeister is an internationally renowned entomologist and agricultural scientist with extensive experience in ecological research, integrated pest management, and sustainable natural resource management. He currently serves as the Director of the Ecology and Natural Resources Management Department at the Centre for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, Germany.

Previously, Prof. Borgemeister served as the Director General of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Nairobi, Kenya, from 2005 to 2013, where he led research and development initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and livelihoods across Africa.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society (UK) and the African Academy of Sciences (AAS). Since November 2011, he has also served as President of the International Branch of the Entomological Society of America (ESA).

Internationally recognized for his pioneering work in biological control and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in tropical agriculture, Prof. Borgemeister has made significant contributions to sustainable pest management. Between 1992 and 1997, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher, Associate Scientist, and later Senior Scientist in the Biological Control Program for Africa at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Benin.
